60163 Tornao is a new build steam locomotive based on the LNER Peppercorn Class A1, all of which were scrapped by 1966. Tornado is the first steam locomotive to be built in the United Kingdom since the end of main line steam locomotive manufacture in 1960. Being a new build as opposed to a restoration, Tornado is being built as the next in the Peppercorn A1 class, and as such is numbered the next in sequence as 60163, the 50th of the class, after the 49th, No. 60162 Saint Johnstoun.
