In many countries an subnational entities there is a Ministry or Department for Agriculture. It is often headed by the Minister of Agriculture. It is responsible for regulating the agricultural sector. Some ministries have additional responsibilities in related policy areas such as forestry and fisheries, rural affairs, food, food quality, inspection and safety, and consumer protection. In some countries it is responsible for matters relating to the environment as well while others assign that duty to a separate ministry of the environment.
