aish tamid

The aish tami (אש תמיד) is the eternal flame that was supposed to burn in the altar in the Jewish Tabernacle and never go out. It is not to be confused with the Ner tamid, the eternal light that is kept in front of the ark. In modern Jewish practice, the aish tamid is kept alive symbolically through daily prayer and the study of Torah.
