The Trans-Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS), usually calle the Alyeska Pipeline in Alaska or the Alaska Pipeline elsewhere, is a major U.S. oil pipeline connecting oil fields in northern Alaska to a sea port where the oil can be shipped to the Lower 48 states for refining.

Trivia about alaska pipeline

  • Able to carry over 2 million barrels of crude a day, it runs from Prudhoe Bay to Valdez
  • On August 1, 1977 the Arco Juneau became the first tanker to carry crude delivered by this 48-inch diameter system
  • In 1968 work began on this project that stretched from the North Slope by Prudhoe Bay to the Port of Valdez
