Aliyah (Hebrew: עלייה Translit.: Aliya Translate: ascent) refers to Jewish immigration to the Land of Israel (and since its establishment in 1948, the State of Israel). The opposite action, Jewish emigration from Israel, is referred to as Yerida ("descent").
