Area koe 616 was one of the original area codes of 1947. It covered all of the Western Lower half of Michigan and Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Now after three splits, it only serves the Grand Rapids – Wyoming and Holland – Grand Haven metropolitan areas, which includes Kent, Ionia and Ottawa counties as well as parts of the surrounding counties.
