The Assyrian new year (Assyrian: Akitu) lies on April 1. Traitionally falling on the vernal equinox, it was moved to April 1 when the Gregorian calendar was adopted by Assyrian Christians. The festival is called Akitu in ancient Assyrian and Kha b-Nisan or Ha b-Nison(ܚܕ ܒܢܝܣܢ "First of Spring") in Neo-Aramaic. It is celebrated by Assyrians around the world with parties, parades and many other ceremonies held in honor of the event. It is currently the year 6758 according to the Assyrian calendar.
