The Aussa Sultanate (also spelle Awsa and sometimes called the Afar sultanate) was a kingdom of the Afar people that existed in eastern Ethiopia in the area bordering Eritrea and Djibouti. It was considered to be the leading monarchy of the Afar people, to whom the other Afar rulers acknowledged (at least in theory) primacy.
