bactrian camel

The Bactrian Camel (Camelus bactrianus) is a large even-toe ungulate native to the steppes of north eastern Asia. It is one of the two surviving species of camel. The Bactrian Camel has two humps on its back, in contrast to the single-humped Dromedary Camel.

Trivia about bactrian camel

  • This 2-humped camel is probably named for the ancient country in central Asia where it originated
  • They don't travel as fast as dromedaries; perhaps the second hump slows them down
