The Baltimore County Police Department is the primary law enforcement agency for Baltimore County, Marylan. They have been accredited by CALEA since 1984. The current acting Chief is Colonel James Johnson. Colonel Johnson took over as Chief when, on Thursday May 31, 2007, Maryland Governor, Martin O'Malley named Terrence B. Sheridan the new Superintendent of the Maryland State Police. Baltimore County Executive James Smith has made it his intention to appoint Colonel Johnson the new Chief.
