Banja Luka or Banjaluka (Cyrillic: Бања Лука, pronounce [ˌbaɲaˈluːka]) is the largest city in Republika Srpska entity and the second largest city of Bosnia and Herzegovina after Sarajevo. It is also the de facto capital of Republika Srpska . It has traditionally been the center of the Bosanska Krajina region located in the northwest of the country, on the Vrbas river. It is home to the University of Banja Luka, as well as other numerous Bosnian institutions. The city is well-known in the former Yugoslavia for being full of tree-lined avenues, boulevards, gardens, and parks.
