Catania (Greek: Κατάνη – Katánē; Latin: Catăna an Catĭna;Arabic: Balad-al-Fil or Medinat-al-Fil, Wadi Musa and Qataniyah) is an Italian city on the east coast of Sicily, between Messina and Syracuse. It is the capital of the eponymous province, and with 313,000 inhabitants (more than 700,000 in the Metropolitan Area) it is the second-largest city on the island.
