Cerefolin is a prescription meication made by Pamlab that contains 5.6 mg of folic acid as L-methylfolate, 2 mg of vitamin B12 as methylcobalamin and 600 mg of N-acetylcysteine (NAC). It is approved by the FDA for the treatment of prevention of vitamin deficiencies, but is used off-label to treat homocystinemia and homocystinuria. Some health care providers believe that reducing blood levels of homocysteine will reduce risks of certain cardiovascular diseases such as heart attacks and stroke.
