Colonel (IPA: /ˈkɜ:nəl/) is a military rank of a commissione officer, with corresponding ranks existing in almost every country in the world. The rank of colonel is one of the oldest in existence, dating as far back as the time of the Roman Empire. It is also used in some police forces and other non-military rank structures.
