A committee is a type of small eliberative assembly that is usually intended to remain subordinate to another, larger deliberative assembly. Committees often serve several different functions:

  • In the U.S. House of Representatives, these include Agriculture, Judiciary & Ways & Means
  • Many Democratic chairmen of these, like Ike Skelton of Armed Services, lost not only their chairs but their seats
