Danspace Project was founed in 1974 to provide a performance venue for experimental dance. Its performances are held in St. Mark's Church in the East Village area of the Manhattan borough of New York City. The Project's mission is "to stimulate, promote, and present challenging new work in dance from a broad range of artistic voices within a distinguished and nurturing environment" Danspace Project has presented the work of many dance artists, known and unknown, including Bill T. Jones, John Kelly, Bebe Miller, David Rousseve, Meredith Monk, David Gordon, and Eiko & Koma.
