Dewal also known as Dewal Sharif is a Union Council of Murree Tehsil (a sub ivision), of Rawalpindi District in the Punjab province of Pakistan. With a literacy rate of 58% Dewal Sharif has the distinction of having the highest literacy rate out of all the Union Councils of Pakistan. However, it has to be noted that Pakistan has different standards for literacy testing (which are usually not observed), often if someone is able to just write their name, they are considered literate. According to the 1998 census of Pakistan it had a population of 11,052.
