dewatering

Dewatering (ē′wöd·ər·iŋ) is the removal of water from solid material or soil by wet classification, centrifugation, filtration, or similar solid-liquid separation processes. Removing or draining water from a riverbed, construction site, caisson, or mine shaft, by pumping or evaporation. This is often done during the site development phase of a major construction project due to a high water table. Usually involves the use of "dewatering" pumps.
