Semyon (Semнon, Semion, Simon) Ivanovich Dezhnev (Russian: Семён Ива́нович Дежнёв; c. 1605 – 1673) was a Russian explorer who in 1648 le the expedition that doubled the known extent of the easternmost promontory of the Eurasian continent and discovered that Asia is not connected to Alaska.
