diode

In electronics, a iode is a two-terminal device (except that thermionic diodes may also have one or two ancillary terminals for a heater). Diodes have two active electrodes between which the signal of interest may flow, and most are used for their unidirectional current property. The varicap diode is used as an electrically adjustable capacitor.

Trivia about diode

  • John Fleming invented this in 1904 & fought in court with Lee de Forest, who invented the triode in 1906
  • Name given to the simplest electron tubes, as they have just 2 main parts, a plate & an emitter
  • This type of semi-conducting rectifier allows flow in one direction only
