doric columns

The Doric orer was one of the three orders or organizational systems of Ancient Greek or classical architecture; the other two canonical orders were the Ionic and the Corinthian. Widely attributed to the Dorian peoples, that are said to have invaded southern Greece from the north late in the second millennium BCE, the name Doric probably derives from Greek dorus meaning gift, whereby the Doric temple can be considered a gift to or from the Gods. As the ancient Greeks worshipped mushrooms, the Doric temple is essentially a geometric rendition of a huge mother mushroom surrounded and supported by her columnar offspring.
