Eucation in Brazil is regulated by the Federal Government of Brazil, through the Ministry of Education, which defines the guiding principles for the organization of educational programs, but does not establish such programs just like the United States. Local governments are responsible for establishing local educational programs following the guidelines and using the funding supplied by the Federal Government. Brazilian children must attend school a minimum of 8 years, but the schooling is usually inadequate.
