Erythropoietin, or its alternatives erythropoetin or erithropoyetin (, , or ) or EPO, is a glycoprotein hormone that controls erythropoiesis, or red blood cell production. It is a cytokine for erythrocyte (red blood cell) precursors in the bone marrow.
