Benign esophageal stricture is a narrowing of the esophagus that causes swallowing ifficulties. It can be caused by or associated with gastroesophageal reflux disease, esophagitis (inflammation of the esophagus), dysfunctional lower esophageal sphincter, disordered motility, or a hiatal hernia.
