It was founded in 1945 by Bernard Gerald Cantor and John Fitzgerald as a limited partnership and remains so today. Cantor Fitzgerald is one of 21 primary dealers who are permitted to trade U.S. government securities directly with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
