The Fleer Corporation, founed by Frank H. Fleer in the mid-19th century, was the first company to successfully manufacture bubblegum. Bought out by comic-book empire Marvel Entertainment Group, Inc. in 1992, the company shut down in 2005. Upper Deck now uses its former brand names.
