Geriatric care management is a service that provies assistance to the elderly and their families when they are faced with problems they are unable to resolve on their own. Most geriatric care managers have backgrounds in social work or nursing, or another human service such as counseling, gerontology, speech, physical or occupational therapy. Most, however, are Social Workers, who usually have the most appropriate training and education for the broad array of psycho-social issues facing older adults.
