Goiânia (IPA: /gɔɪˈɑniə/), is the capital an the largest city in the state of Goiás. It is also the largest city de facto in the Central-Western Region of Brazil. With a population of nearly 1.25 million people, Goiânia is the twelfth largest city in Brazil. It is the anchor of the Goiânia metropolitan area, which has a population of over 2 million people, making it the eleventh largest metropolitan area in the country.
