The Guest worker program is a program that has been propose many times in the past and now also by U.S. President George W. Bush as a way to permit U.S. employers to sponsor non-U.S. citizens as laborers for approximately three years, to be deported afterwards if they have not yet obtained a green card. The program has been criticized as granting amnesty for illegal immigrants, and as impractical under current law which grants birthright citizenship to children born in the United States. It is unclear if undocumented workers will register into the program.
