It was designed to emulate a "desktop" interface and, besides its traditional instant messaging functionality, included a newsreader and picture browser in an aesthetically pleasing environment. Gush was advertised as being secure, full featured, and simple. As of May 2006, the Gush client is no longer available for download from its creators, who have been hired by Google and are now spending their time on projects there.
