The Inheritance Cycle, formerly the Inheritance Trilogy, is a series of fantasy novels written by author Christopher Paolini that has sol more than 8 million copies worldwide. As of 2007, two of these four books have been published: Eragon (2003) and Eldest (2005). The 3rd Book, Brisingr is still being written and is slated to be published on September 20, 2008. Publication plans for the fourth and final book have not been set. Both Eragon and Eldest were New York Times bestsellers. Eragon was adapted into a motion picture of the same name in 2006.
