Nationality law in Italy, like that of many European countries, favors jus sanguinis. However, unlike the law of many traitionally emigrant-sending countries, Italian law incorporates elements that are seen as favourable to the Italian diaspora. Italian nationality law is based on legislation, presidential decree and Ministry of the Interior circulars.
