Jayhawkers is a term that originally applie to guerrilla fighters during the American Civil War in Kansas who often clashed with States' Rights and pro-slavery partisans, as well as Missouri militia units. The name was also used by or applied to some Kansas regular troops. It is in reference to the mythical Jayhawk.
