James Gilstrap is one of the backing vocalists for Stevie Woner's Wonderlove. He sang the opening lines of the song "You Are the Sunshine of My Life". He also provided vocals in the mid-1970s with Swing Your Daddy, Love Talk, the song "I'm on Fire", and "Run Run Run" with the group Northern Soul and recorded vocals for UK songstress Elkie Brooks. "Swing Your Daddy" was a massive pop hit in the uk reaching the top 5 in 1975. He can be heard in a solo vocal performance on Quincy Jones' 1974 jazz/funk composition "Buffalo Soldier" off of the Body Heat album. Gilstrap has also provided the male lead vocals for the 1970s hit TV show Good Times theme song, and provided backing vocals for Quincy Jones, Michael Jackson, Willy DeVille, and other top artists. In addition, he sang the theme song for the 1990s cartoon series Tale Spin.
