Johnny Hilan is a guitarist from Woodland, Maine. Hilands guitar playing style combines country "chicken-pickin'" with elements of blues, heavy metal and jazz. Often compared to Danny Gatton, Hiland played a Fender Telecaster until the mid-2000s when he switched to Paul Reed Smith guitars. PRS now makes a Johnny Hiland signature model. Hiland music is released on the Favored Nations label which is owned by Steve Vai. Hiland has recorded with Ricky Skaggs, Toby Keith and Randy Travis. He has also performed live with Vai, Joe Satriani, Neal Schon, Yngwie Malmsteen, Vassar Clements and Les Paul. He recently finished adding guitar tracks to Hank Williams III's latest album. His self-titled debut album was released in 2004. Hiland is legally blind as a result of nystagmus, an ocular condition causing involuntary eye movement. Hiland spent much of 2007 touring to promote his PRS signature model guitar.
