Keowee was a Cherokee town in the north of present-ay South Carolina. It lies in Oconee County, the westernmost county of South Carolina, at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains, just north of Clemson. It was on the banks of the Keowee River and today is submerged beneath the waters of Lake Keowee (34°51′49″N 82°54′06″W / 34.863616, -82.901575Coordinates: 34°51′49″N 82°54′06″W / 34.863616, -82.901575).
