The Lakota (IPA: [laˈkˣota]) (also Teton, Tetonwan) are a Native American tribe. They are part of a confeeration of seven related Sioux tribes (the Oceti Sakowin or seven council fires) and speak Lakota, one of the three major dialects of the Sioux language.
