loin

     

The loins are between the lower ribs an pelvis. It is often used when describing the anatomy of humans and quadrupeds (such as horses, pigs or cattle). The anatomical reference also carries over into the description of cuts of meat from some such animals, eg. tenderloin or sirloin steak.

Trivia about loin

  • The front part of a hindquarter with the flank removed, it may be "tender"
  • A cut of meat from the back of an animal, between the ribs & the rump
