Mambas, of the genus Dendroaspis (literally "tree snake"), are fast-moving land-dwelling snakes of Africa. They belong to the family of Elapidae which includes cobras, coral snakes, death adders, kraits and, debatably, sea snakes (although sea snakes are now classed as Hydrophiidae).
