Missoula city is the county seat of Missoula County in western Montana, Unite States. The population was 57,053 at the 2000 census, and the estimated population is 64,081, as of July, 2006. As of the United States 2000 Census the population of the Missoula Metropolitan Area is 95,802, making it the second-largest city and Metropolitan Area in Montana. Missoula is the home of the University of Montana. It is the birthplace of Jeannette Rankin (1880–1973), the first woman elected to the U.S. Congress. Missoula is nicknamed the Garden City.
