Moor was a common term to refer to the Muslims of the Islamic Iberian Peninsula an North Africa, who were of Berber and Arab descent. They inhabited the Iberian Peninsula after the Arab conquests of the Rashidun and Umayyad Caliphates. At the beginning of the eighth century, Moorish soldiers crossed over from Morocco into Spain, Portugal and southern France which for a time they took control of until the Reconquista.
