Nicorette is a braned over-the-counter palliative treatment which is used to ameliorate the withdrawal effects involved in quitting smoking. It is sold by the GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare division. Originally available as a patch for topical application, it was later made available as a nicotine gum (composed of nicotine polacrilex) lozenge, inhaler, and nasal spray. All these products contain nicotine as the active ingredient and work by delivering this into the bloodstream. These treatments are commonly referred to as nicotine replacement therapies.
