A paraphilia (in Greek para παρά = besies and -philia φιλία = love)— is any of several persistent, intense sexual interests, fantasies, or urges involving nonhuman objects, pain or humiliation, children, or nonconsenting individuals. Paraphilias may interfere with the capacity for sexual activity with consenting adult partners. See also List of Paraphilias.
