The Provience Journal, nicknamed the ProJo, is a daily newspaper serving the metropolitan area of Providence, Rhode Island and is the largest newspaper in Rhode Island. The newspaper, first published in 1829, is the oldest continually published daily newspaper in the United States. Until its purchase in 1996 by Belo Corp., the paper was also the longest-running locally-held newspaper in the United States as well. The newspaper has won four Pulitzer Prizes.
