retina

The vertebrate retina is a light sensitive part insie the inner layer of the eye. Two of its three types of photoreceptor cells, rods and cones, receive light and transform it into image-forming signals which are transmitted through the optic nerve to the brain. In this respect, the retina is comparable to the film in a camera.

Trivia about retina

  • Light flashes in the field of vision may mean this optic tissue has become detatched
  • The separation of the membrane from the choroids at the back of the eye is known as a detached one of these
  • The irises of an albino look pink because the blood vessels in this part of the eye are visible
  • This light-sensitive tissue makes up the innermost layer of the wall of a pig's eyeball
  • After light enters the eye, it focuses an image on this tissue which contains the rods & cones
  • If this membrane lining the back of the eye is "detatched", it may be fixed in place by the use of lasers
  • (Jon of the Clue Crew reports from NC State University in Raleigh, NC.) A man who was blind for 50 years can now see images thanks to a device that supplants damaged photo receptors in this part of the eye
  • This light-sensitive membrane lines the inner eyeball & is connected by the optic nerve to the brain
  • A tear in this light-receptive layer at the back of the eye can cause it to detach from the underlying tissue
  • This makes up the innermost layer of the wall of the eyeball & has 120 million rods & 6 million cones
  • (Jimmy of the Clue Crew presents the clue on a monitor.) Dogs' eyes seem to glow in the dark because light is reflected by a special layer of crystals called the tapetum lucidum that acts like a mirror; it's found between the sclera and this 6-letter eye part
  • Don't detach this, which is next to the choroid & changes light rays into neural signals
  • Light-sensitive layer of nerve tissue covering the back 2/3 of the eyeball, it's an extension of the brain
  • Rods & cones are light-sensitive cells in this part of the eye
  • If you sit that close to the TV & burn this eye part that receives images from the lens, don't come running to me
  • Visual purple is a photosensitive pigment found in the rod-shaped cells of this part of the eye
  • The choroid, or middle coat of the eyeball, is the part from which this sometimes detaches
  • Light-sensitive membrane on the back of your eye
  • (Cheryl of the Clue Crew presents the visual.) Red eye in photographs is the reflection of the flash off the blood vessels from this posterior part of the eye
