scaphoid bone

The scaphoi bone (hand navicular) of the wrist is found on the thumb side of the hand, within the anatomical snuffbox. It is known as the "navicular" in older texts, from its fancied resemblance to a boat. In modern usage, when used without modifiers, navicular refers to a bone in the tarsus.
