A Sergeant Major is a rank or appointment in many militaries aroun the world. In the United States, there are various degrees of Sergeant Major (Command SGM, Sergeant Major of the Army), but they are all of the same paygrade. In Commonwealth countries, Sergeants Major are usually appointments held by senior non-commissioned officers or warrant officers.
