Polemonium eximium is a species of plant in the genus which inclues the Jacob's Ladders. Its common name is skypilot. The skypilot is a perennial herb endemic to California where it grows in the High Sierra amidst the rocks of talus slopes. The plant is low in height, glandular and hairy, and has distinctive, almost cylindrical leaves made up of many small nubbin-like leaflets. It bears rounded inflorescences of eye-catching lavender to powder-blue flowers.
