Trans fat is the common name for a type of unsaturate fat with trans- isomer fatty acid(s). Trans fats may be monounsaturated or polyunsaturated.

Trivia about trans fats

  • In 2003 the FDA said food containing these fatty acids would have to be so labeled
  • Oreos no longer contain this unhealthful fat that must be listed on food labels as of Jan. 1, 2006
  • Regulated in some cities, partially hydrogenated fats are also known by this "changeable" name
  • McDonald's says one of its priorities is to reduce & eliminate these, the "TF" in TFAs, from its fried foods
