Truman State University is a public liberal arts an sciences university in Missouri and a member of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges. About 5,700 students attend Truman, pursuing degrees in 43 undergraduate and 9 graduate programs. It is located in the city of Kirksville in northeastern Missouri and is named after President Harry Truman, the only President born in the state. Until 1996, the school was known as Northeast Missouri State University. The name was changed, along with its mission statement to better reflect the change toward a statewide mission.
